MCK Associates - Berry Hill Hall

Berry Hill Hall

Phase 1 of this £30million restoration development commenced last year with the conversion of the semi derelict and fire damaged hall into luxury apartments.

The Grade 2 listed Berry Hill Hall had been placed on the Buildings at Risk Register after falling into a severe state of disrepair and becoming a target for arsonists and vandals. Ironically, the building's dereliction was an indirect legacy of the town's mining past. It was most recently used as a Rehabilitation Centre for injured mineworkers, until it closed down in 1988.

Period conversion specialists, Blackthorn Homes purchased the dilapidated hall in 2003 and have worked alongside mck , conservation and planning officers on the restoration scheme.

Specialist contractors were brought in to painstakingly restore original features from the 250 year-old structure including the clock tower and the front of the hall, which will be restored to their former glory.

Now the first part of the refurbishment, which includes 26 luxury apartments in the former hall and courtyard has been completed. A further 86, mostly two and three bedroom, apartments and mews houses will follow, including further parts of the former hall and some new build development in keeping with the historic structure.
